Teletherapy setup for SLPs including screens, headphones, AAC tools, standing desk, and must-have equipment to run smooth, effective virtual speech sessions.
🖤 My Real Teletherapy Setup (Not the Pinterest Version)

Teletherapy looks simple from the outside. Laptop. Headset. Maybe a worksheet.
Done.
…except no.
If you’ve ever tried to run a session while pulling up materials, taking data, fixing audio, and pretending everything is fine—you already know that’s not reality.
If you want your sessions to actually run smoothly (and keep your sanity), your setup matters.
This isn’t a Pinterest-perfect setup. This is what I actually use every day as a teletherapy SLP—and what keeps everything from falling apart.
🖤 1. Multiple Screens (non-negotiable)
At minimum: 2 screens.
I use 3, because I like peace.
🖤 Screen 1 (desktop): students + materials🖤 Screen 2 (desktop): what students are working on🖤 Screen 3 (laptop): data, Medicaid, attendance, schedule
👉 The third screen is the difference between: “I’ve got this” vs “hold on… where did that go…”
Also, when you give students remote access, you still need control of your life. That third screen makes that possible.
🖤 2. Dual Computer Setup (underrated)

🖤 3. Multi-Device Keyboard (desktop + laptop control)
This is one of those things you don’t realize you need… until you use it.
🖤 Instantly switch between desktop (sessions) and laptop (data, Medicaid, schedule)
🖤 No more juggling multiple keyboards or constantly reaching around your desk
🖤 Keeps everything running smoothly.. even when students have remote access to your screen
👉 Could you survive without it? Yes. But once you have it… you’re not going back.

Backup = just use the laptop keyboard
👉 This setup prevents:
🖤 Chaos
🖤 47 open tabs
🖤 Losing your data mid-session
🖤 4. High-Quality Headphones (worth it)
I use Sony MX5 headphones and I will not go back.
🖤 Clear audio for student speech sounds
🖤 Microphone = “crystal clear” (we love a good para review)
🖤 No more “say that again… again…”
👉 Audio quality = therapy quality
🖤 5. iPad for AAC (huge if you use AAC)
If you work with AAC, this is a must.
🖤 Many AAC apps offer SLP access
🖤 You can mirror your iPad during sessions
🖤 Modeling becomes way easier
👉 Could you survive without it? Yes. Do you want to? No.
🖤 6. Standing Desk (I will never go back)
I switch between sitting and standing throughout the day.
🖤 Keeps energy up
🖤 Reduces fatigue
🖤 Helps with long teletherapy days
Not standing all day...this isn’t a punishment. but the option is everything.
🖤 7. Treadmill (for indirect time)
Do I use this during sessions? No.
But during:
🖤 Medicaid billing
🖤 Emails
🖤 Scheduling
🖤 Everything indirect really
👉 I’m walking.
Because teletherapy = sitting forever unless you intervene.
🖤 8. Monitor Mount (unexpected upgrade)

I upgraded to monitor mounts, and it completely changed my setup.
🖤 I use one dual mount + one single mount
🖤 Frees up a ton of desk space
🖤 Easier to position screens exactly where I want them
I did try a triple mount thinking it would be perfect…
…it was not.
👉 Too flimsy. Not stable. Immediate no.
The dual + single combo is way more sturdy and flexible.
🖤 9. Camera (keep it simple)
I use a 4K camera.
Do you need that? No.
You need:
🖤 Students can clearly see your mouth
🖤 Good lighting
That’s it.
🖤 10. Ergonomic Mouse (game changer)
I use the Logitech Lift ergonomic mouse, and my hand is no longer fighting for its life.
🖤 Natural hand position
🖤 No cramping
🖤 Way more comfortable
I tried one that switches between computers… didn’t love it, but also didn't take the time to give it a chance. Now I use two mice like a slightly chaotic professional.
🖤 11. Speakers (optional)
Not essential, but nice.
🖤 Helpful during meetings
🖤 Gives your ears a break
Because sometimes headphones are just… enough.
🖤 12. Printer (barely used)
I have one.
Do I use it? Rarely.
🖤 Occasional screener
🖤 Evaluation materials
Everything else = digital.
🖤 13. Water Bottle (don’t be that SLP)
You are talking all day.
🖤 Hydration = vocal folds that cooperate
🖤 14. Blue Light Glasses
You’re staring at screens all day. Your eyes know it. I use them at least for my indirect work.
🖤 Helps reduce eye strain
🖤 Fewer headaches
🖤 Makes long days more manageable
You might not notice immediately… but by the end of the day, you will.
🖤 15. Office Chair (help me 😅)
🖤 I have a decent one
🖤 I know there are better ones out there
👉 Taking recommendations.

🖤 16. The Real Essentials (let’s be honest)
These are the true MVPs.
🖤 Dog + dog bed
My dog is in the office all day. Dog bed = calm, cozy energy. Honestly, elite regulation strategy 😅
🖤 Salt lamp (for the vibe) Does it improve therapy outcomes? No .Does it make your space feel less like a screen dungeon? Yes.
🖤 Final Thoughts
You don’t need a perfect setup.
But the right setup will:
🖤 Make sessions smoother
🖤 Reduce stress
🖤 Help you focus on therapy...not tech issues... welllll let's be real, we will always have tech issues.
Teletherapy isn’t just about what you use, it’s about creating a space you actually enjoy being in.
Because when you’re comfortable… your sessions are better too.
